Applications open for ICHS’ Advanced Practice Practitioner Residency
International Community Health Services (ICHS) is accepting applications for ICHS’ 2025-2026 Advanced Practice Provider Residency program. Candidates interested in serving as primary care providers in community health settings should apply for this trailblazing residency on ICHS’ website before Friday, February 21, 2025.
The residency’s mission is to educate and retain well-rounded, highly autonomous, effective, and culturally-competent advanced practice providers, who will serve as primary care providers in community health settings. It is a 13-month full-time, salaried position with benefits, under the direction of dedicated preceptors with decades of primary care experience.
“Joining the residency at ICHS was the best decision I’ve made to start my career as a nurse practitioner,” said Jessica Truong, MSN, ARNP, 2023-2024 cohort. “It is a perfect transition from being a student in school to practicing as a full-fledged independent healthcare provider. Now finishing [my residency] I feel so prepared and confident to practice independently.”
The ICHS Family Nurse Practitioner residency was founded in 2014 and was the first to be accredited in the U.S. As of 2023, the program expanded to include Physician Assistants/Associates, and is called the ICHS Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Residency Program.
The program provides residents the feedback, tools, and lessons for advanced practice practitioners to build a sustainable career, says Scott Sato, PA-C, Deputy Director of ICHS’ APP Residency Program.
Community health centers (CHCs) like ICHS served a record number of patients in 2023. Described as “safety-net primary care providers,” CHCs serve all patients who walk through their doors regardless of their ability to pay, providing a range of medical, behavioral, and supportive services.
Classes alone cannot equip everyone for delivering care in dynamic, complex clinical settings. Recognizing this, ICHS’ Advanced Practice Provider Residency Program includes hands-on speciality rotations in areas of high-volume/high-burden/high-risk situations most commonly encountered in the community health center setting, as well as time per week at partnered clinics at the delegation of other primary care providers.
To apply, please visit ICHS’ Advanced Practice Practitioner Residency page.
Residency leadership will host two virtual Q&A sessions about the program for interested candidates. A recent graduate will also share their experience with the program, as well as time to answer any questions. They will be:
- Thursday, 2/6, 2:30pm-3:30pm PST
- Thursday, 2/13, 12:00pm-1:00pm PST
